| ABOUT City ST. JOHN’S ENGLISH HIGH SCHOOL
Inception of the School
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Every big vision has a small beginning and excellence is achieved through relentless effort.
St. John’s story begins when we were invited to take ownership of the school in 1992 with 200 students. This Institute began from a small but inextinguishable flame, ignites by the grace of God through His humble servant Wahengbam Lokendro Meitei. It began in a simple but with a grand vision in the wilderness.
God provided a small piece of land for the school in Nambol Laitonjam Khori Leikai, Bisnupur District. We had a very short time to build the first classrooms to welcome our students as the beginning of the 1993 school year. Many families trusted us and brought their children to the new location. Students in the community began to join us as well. All the construction works were done manually. Every responsibility has been borne by Mr. Wahengbam Lokendro Meitei with his beloved wife Mrs. Raj Daisy Metilda on his side. God was so faithful to teach us and strengthen us as we trusted Him.
Over the years God has allowed our school to grow gradually. We are so grateful to the many people who have worked hard to teach with love, skill and care nicely for the children. Our support staff and teaching staff have all been an important part of the building to our St. John’s community.
We were blessed by God and St. John’s parents requested to open the hostel in 1996. Having students live on the campus gives us further opportunity to develop the whole child, helping them to grow academically, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
God has shown us the importance of taking a very active approach to learning, using activities, demonstrations and discussion to help students to students to understand, remember and apply what they learn. Training for our staff through the Educating for life program introduced this sensorial approach, which work together with how He has designed us to live and learn. It allows our students to develop creativity, critical thinking, communication skills and the value to make a positive contribution to the society. We will introduce the Montessori approach to our younger grades this coming year to build a strong foundation of these skills and values from the beginning.
In addition to our teaching methods, God has shown us the value of providing opportunities for the children to discover new areas of ability and interest. Over the years we have added special days throughout the year, which include sport days, literary meet, painting competition and science exhibition. Children find joy in the challenge and excitement of new experience and working together.
In 2016, God impressed upon us the importance of creating a school constitution to express the vision and values that has shown us over the years. He wanted us to have a framework that would guide the development and implementation of every policy. He provided us a clear foundation so that particular decisions can be made in agreement with our overall goals for our students, staff and families.
We are deeply grateful to God for his guidance provision and grace to build our St. John’s Community through our school to watch the Nambol area grow and develop with new homes, business and government offices, By His grace, we will work hard to live out our school motto to “Let Your Light Shine”. We want to be good example of how we can all be blessed to live in God’s Shalom.
Today, our Lord Almighty has showered His unending and ceaseless manifold blessing to this school. Henceforth, hundreds and thousands of students have left after completion of courses and occupied high offices across the country.
Many men and women have prospered in wisdom & faith. We thank our Lord Jesus Christ; through Him all things were created and by Him everything is made perfect. To God be the Glory for twenty-five years of yielding fruits of success and further look forward to a more fruitful and rewarding future.
Brief History of The School
St. John’s School is a Christian Residential/Day/Co-educational English Medium High School, comprises from classes Pre-Nursery to X. It is established in the year 1993 and it is affiliated to the Manipur Board of Secondary Education, Manipur. This institution is managed and administered by an elite and exclusive trustee member.
Way back in 1993 a philanthropist and a benevolent benefactor who hailed from South India has seen the express need of a good Christian School for the people of Imphal and its surrounding areas and he immediately envisaged to setup an English Medium Primary School in a rented campus in Imphal. Nonetheless, owing to unforeseen circumstances he had to give up the well-intentioned idea. However, at this juncture Mr. W. Lokendro (Lukey) and his wife Mrs. Daisy Lukey had taken up the challenge, the vision of imparting Christian Education to the Children of this region. Hence, this school has a very humble beginning and God in His mercy enabled ‘Luckeys” to build up to this present position.
The cognizance and fantasy of St. John’s English High School is to have a well nurtured School that could provide a purpose-built innovation, enhancement in its principles and to train up young people to be the future leaders of this great nation and the world over.
